Evgeny Skigin, Lead Singer of The Starz

Evgeny SkiginEvgeny Skigin went to high school in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota where he and a few of his friends decided to form a garage band.  Eventually they began playing in clubs around the neighborhood where they were spotted by a man who was just getting a start in the business.   He helped package the band, even coming up with their name, Starz, and was able to get them a record deal in 1981.

It didn’t take long for teenage girls to fall for the dreamy eyed musician Evgeny Skigin and his band members.  Soon, they took on a female member, Kat Dancer and their stardom took off from there.  They played in every major  venue in the United States, then began to travel throughout Europe and Asia, filling stadiums eve place they played.  They had three platinum records and quickly became a lasting symbol of the eighties.

The band’s demise came when the music scene began to change from the soulful eighties to the grunge nineties.  Evgeny Skigin, a musician for his time, simply couldn’t make the transition.  The band put out one last record, called “Let’s Shake Things Up,” but sales were flat, and soon after that the members disbanded, until recently when fans insisted on a comeback concert.
